OUR STORY

The idea of hiring virtual assistants from all over the world first came up in a lunch meeting. My lunch date had hired a virtual assistant from the other side of the world, and was thrilled with the value he received. Her English was strong as well as her work ethic. She enjoyed the perks of working from home and had a higher pay rate than her friends. It seemed like a win-win scenario.

Right after lunch I left town, and with time on my hands while driving, this idea that there are incredible people all over the world kept coming back to me. I spent time serving in the United States Air Force, and I remember that everywhere I went, whether it was Turkey, Saudi Arabia or Singapore, I always met people who were really well-educated and spoke great English. So, remembering those people, the idea of finding incredible people like them, and being able to offer them higher pay than they could find in their local areas, gave me the idea to start hiring virtual assistants for my own law practice.

I dedicated months and months to figuring out how to find, screen, and hire incredible people outside of the United States. But instead of hiring just one person, my first job posting yielded 5 great people, so I actually brought all five on at the same time. All of them are incredible and still working at Job Duck. At that point, I also found someone for my co-founder’s law firm. We both liked the idea so much that together we decided to turn this into a business, and that’s how in 2018 the Job Duck was officially born!

Why a Duck?

Did you know when we started way back in July 2018, we had a different name? It’s true!

Our name “Job Duck” didn’t surface until March 2020. It was inspired by a mnemonic challenge designed to reinforce our core values. Initially, our co-founders wanted a mnemonic for our five core values, and a team member creatively organized them as “Amazing Blue Colored Ducks Everywhere.” The idea was fun, comical, a true representation of our co-founders’ spirit. So much so it led to blue duck prints decorating their home-office walls.

A few months later we rebranded, and our co-founders drew inspiration from these blue ducks, and “Job Duck” was officially hatched.

Ducks symbolize adaptability, teamwork, and persistence — qualities we embody in our daily work.
