Why Some Applications Don't Make the Cut

You’ve applied for a position at Job Duck, hoping to start a long-term career with us. Unfortunately, your application was unsuccessful. You may feel disappointed and wonder what could have gone wrong. If you can relate, stick around because this must-read article shares the most common reasons why some applications don’t make the cut.

Hopefully, after reading this blog, you’ll have a better understanding of what to look out for when you decide to give it another shot.

Applying for a Role

You saw one of our career opportunities and decided to apply. However, have you thoroughly read the job description and applied for a position that matches your skills and experience? If not, someone who does have the required experience may have also applied for the same role.

Furthermore, think about how many times you’ve applied within 12 months. Have you perhaps reached the maximum number of three applications per year?

Lastly, it’s not only about selecting a role and then getting hired. There are more steps to follow. When we say attention to detail matters, we mean it. With that in mind, you’ll also need to create an account and complete the required steps. Let’s take a closer look at profile creation.

Profile Creation

Mistakes such as incorrect contact information, missing details, or not following instructions could greatly affect your application. Ask yourself: Have I added the required documents? Is my resume up to date? If you applied for a marketing assistant role, have you included your marketing portfolio? Would it draw attention?

It’s important to consider all these factors when creating your profile. Ensure that every detail you include is correct, up to date, and appealing.   This is our opportunity to get to know you before you possibly move on to the initial interview. First impressions matter. Make the most of it!

That said, did you find yourself unsuccessful during any of the interviews? Keep reading to find the most common reasons why a candidate’s application might stop here.

The Interviews

As you may know, you’ll take part in an initial interview before moving forward to the US employer’s interview. Both interviews share similar reasons why one could be unsuccessful, but there are some differences.

For example, during the initial interview, it’s important to follow the instructions carefully. Not doing so could lead to failure. On the other hand, with the US employer’s interview, you may find yourself unsuccessful if you don’t meet their criteria.

With that in mind, here are some common reasons why you may not have been successful in either interview: communication difficulties, differences with our core values, or home office instabilities, such as taking the interview in a space full of distractions.

Other Factors to Consider

Sometimes, we receive applications from candidates who live in countries where we do not hire. Our opportunities are available for people living in Argentina, Brazil, Chile, Colombia, El Salvador, Honduras, Mexico, Peru, and South Africa.

Moreover, some candidates take a long time to complete their steps and ultimately find themselves unsuccessful, as the position has already been filled.

Lastly, ensure that you are of legal age to work within your country. And if you are from another country but currently staying in one where we hire, make sure you have a work permit before applying.

Conclusion

In conclusion, while we cannot provide specific feedback on individual applications, since our employers’ requirements and notes are confidential, we shared some of the most common reasons candidates don’t move forward, depending on the stage of the process.
