Sharing is caring!

Many of us are seeking a career that offers a supportive environment, professional growth, and work-life balance. For Thokozile, she has found that and more.

In this Weekly Tea blog, you’ll meet Thokozile from South Africa as she shares her experience working with Job Duck, life outside of work, and her perspective on mental well-being. Enjoy the read!

Meet Thokozile

Thokozile is a remote professional working as a legal assistant with one of our U.S. employers. Her daily responsibilities include drafting legal documents, scheduling client appointments, and managing email.

She works in a fast-paced, growing law firm that specializes in immigration law. Although she has a background in international law, she has been learning the specifics of the immigration field as she goes.

A Supportive Integration

While reading this article, you may wonder if Job Duck offers a supportive environment. Here’s what Thokozile has to say about her start. She describes the integration process as ‘incredible’ because she had all the support she needed.

Additionally, the onboarding was great since the team was patient with her. She trained with another new employee, and they were shown every step of what the firm expected.

Moreover, her boss is a busy lawyer yet makes time to involve her in various tasks, allowing her to learn more about the firm as a whole. She feels the whole process has been inclusive.

Company Culture Across Borders

Even though she works virtually from South Africa, she still feels the warmth within the company. To her, the team feels like a family rather than just colleagues.

The work culture is encouraging for those in the office, and she feels that same spirit even from a distance. Because she feels part of the group, she is motivated to match the drive she sees in the physical office.

Growth and Knowledge

The law firm is growing every day. Thokozile believes that as the firm grows, she grows along with it professionally and mentally. Immigration is a major topic in the news, which keeps the firm very busy. She enjoys being part of that environment because it helps her grow in knowledge and professional skills.

Mental Well-Being

When reflecting on advice for her past self, she says it is important to be in an environment that supports mental well-being. For her, this role is a professional position that also allows her to spend time with her family.

Working in the comfort of her home in a familiar environment made it easier for her to integrate into the firm. She did not have to feel awkward on her first day or wonder where things were.

In addition, being at home allows her to be present for her son. From her workspace, she can see the window where his transport drops him off from school every day.

She feels mentally okay knowing he is home safely. She does not have to worry about traffic or whether he has found his key. Her message is to find a virtual job with a company that supports your mental health, as it provides the whole package.
