“There’s a Lot of Freedom” – Leticia from Brazil

Sharing is caring!

When Leticia joined our team, she brought with her a background that most people spend years working toward. Yet, what surprised her most had nothing to do with the law. In this Weekly Tea blog, you’ll meet Leticia from Brazil as she talks about her transition to remote work, her experience working with Job Duck, and life outside of work. Enjoy the read!

Meet Leticia

Leticia is a remote professional working as a legal assistant with one of our U.S.-based employers. Her daily responsibilities include managing schedules, filing court documents, and handling client communication across a high volume of emails.

What makes Leticia’s story compelling is the depth of experience she brings to the role. She is a qualified attorney in Brazil, with three years of prior experience as a law clerk in the court system. When the opportunity arose to work remotely with a U.S.-based firm, she chose the legal assistant position with purpose. For Leticia, the chance to work from the comfort of her home was a priority.

Leticia’s Experience Working with Job Duck

Remote work was not entirely new to Leticia. Her final years of law school fell during the pandemic, which gave her an early introduction to managing her responsibilities from home. Still, making the shift from a fast-paced court environment to a fully remote role was a significant change. She was ready for it.

One of the biggest differences Leticia noticed was in the management style. In her previous environments, the expectation to constantly account for every task and every hour was a given. At her U.S.-based firm, things are quite different.

“My boss, the attorney, she’s just great. I don’t feel like there’s this micromanaging structure. There’s a lot of freedom. And this freedom comes from knowing that you will deliver your job and do your best.”

That trust was tested early on. A few weeks into her role, Leticia became seriously ill and needed to take two days of sick leave. Her employer’s response said everything about the culture she had stepped into. Her boss was completely understanding, and Leticia returned to work knowing she was in a place that respected her as a person, not just as a professional.

To keep herself focused and productive at home, Leticia developed a set of personal rules that work for her. She closes her door, sets up her workspace properly, and draws a clear line between home mode and work mode. Finally, her advice to herself and to others: no working in your pajamas.

Life Beyond Work

Remote work has given Leticia something that a commute-heavy, in-office schedule simply could not: time. As a result, working from the comfort of her home in Brazil, she has been able to structure her day in a way that supports her well-being alongside her career.

For Leticia, the role is not just professionally fulfilling. It fits her life. She loves the work she does and is clear about that. “It has been such a great experience,” she said, and the warmth in how she said it made it clear she meant every word.
