The benefits of working from home benefits both the employee and the employer. Advances in technology and communication have also played an important role in the ease of working from home. However, there is a significant downside to working from home that can be summed up in one word: distractions.
The house is full of distractions that can often be too difficult to resist. That is why below we give you some tips to know how to avoid them:
1. Accept that there will be distractions.
Pretending that interesting, non-work-related things aren’t there won’t do you any favors. By doing so, the opposite will happen: you will become more aware of it and spend most of your time trying to eliminate all distractions from your mind. In addition, you can use it as a reward or a distraction after finishing your work. The knowledge that a special gift resides at the end of a project can significantly encourage you to do your best work to enjoy the reward at the end.
2. Turn off all social networks.
Stop checking Facebook, turn off Twitter notifications, and avoid the temptation to browse your Instagram feed while you work. As mentioned in the previous point, you can use it as a reward or just leave it for your free time.
3. Make sure your family or roomies know when you are working.
While they may not be there all the time, you are likely to come in contact with them occasionally while working. Because of this, it is important that you set limits and communicate when you cannot be bothered. It’s your job, so it’s completely understandable.
4. Establish a to-do list and stick to it.
At the beginning of each day, take time to organize your to-do list. Be realistic and set goals that you can achieve in the time you have. Don’t forget to set a deadline for each of the tasks.
5. Exercise.
Staying active will help you be healthy in mind and body. Use the exercise to clear your mind, and you will see how your focus on work will improve.
6. Keep your work area clean.
Assuming you have an established work area, which allows you to be seated at a desk with good posture, it is important that you always keep it clean and tidy. Disorder is a factor that causes a lot of distraction and stress.
Lastly, don’t forget to get out of your pajamas to a casual outfit that can also be comfortable. If you fall into the trap of staying in your pajamas all day, your mindset may not be fully tuned to work. Plus, a routine will put you in the right mindset. The idea of avoiding distractions is to stay more productive and to achieve your goals.
