Want to Work with Job Duck? Here’s How to Improve Your English

Sharing is caring!

English

Many professionals interested in working with Job Duck often have the right skills and experience but lack the required English proficiency level (B2, C1, or C2).

Since we work with U.S.-based clients, we expect our team members to have advanced or native-level English skills, both written and spoken. If you’re not there yet but want to work with us, we want you to know that all is not lost.

In this article, we share tips, practical examples, and a discount code for courses that could help strengthen your English skills. Practice makes perfect, and we’re confident you’ll get there in no time!

1. The First Steps

One of the most important first steps to improving your English skills is practicing active listening and speaking. You’ll get comfortable with English the more you expose yourself to common phrases, sentence structures, and pronunciation. Let’s make it fun:

  • Watch English movies, documentaries, or series (with subtitles).
  • Listen to English podcasts or music (Sing along to your favorite track).
  • Have conversations in English with friends and family.

Often, people struggle with sentence structure and pronunciation. Here are some examples:

Incorrect: “She go to the market every day for buy fresh vegetables.”

Correct: “She goes to the market every day to buy fresh vegetables.”

Pronunciation:

  • Comfortable (COMF-ter-bul)
  • Vegetable (VEJ-tuh-bul
  • February (FEB-yu-air-ee)
  • Wednesday (WENZ-day
  • Recipe (RES-uh-pee
  • Colonel (KUR-nul

It’s best to practice active listening and speaking as much as possible. Once you can structure sentences and pronounce words correctly, you’re already halfway there. Now it’s time to take the next step.

2. Expand Your Vocabulary with Context

The more you expose yourself to English, the more you’ll notice certain words that are commonly used. Eventually, this will lead to expanding your vocabulary. That’s great! This means you’ll be able to express yourself in the language. However, from an early stage, it’s important to focus on understanding the words you learn.

For example, you might not be interested in something, but stating that you’re “disinterested” is incorrect. That means impartial, not “uninterested.” Two other examples include “effect” and “affect.”

Example: The new law had a big effect on businesses. It affected many companies.

Effect = A noun (result).

Affect = A verb (to influence).

Some words could even confuse native speakers at times. For this reason, note down every new word you learn and make sure you understand the context behind it. This will help you develop a more advanced understanding of English.

3. Grab a Book or Read Articles

Working remotely with Job Duck requires more than just speaking and understanding English. You also need strong writing skills. Fortunately, tools like Grammarly can help you correct errors, but over time, you’ll want to become a fluent writer to save time. That’s where consistent reading comes in.

Maybe you’ve read a couple of books in your home language, but why not give it a go in English? The more you read, the better. It will improve your vocabulary, grammar, pronunciation, and writing skills. There are tons of books to buy on platforms like Amazon.

Additionally, if you don’t want to spend money, make Google your best friend. Consider reading news articles or anything you find interesting. There are tons of resources out there that could benefit you. And that brings us to the next tip.

4. Make ChatGPT Your Virtual Learning Buddy

It’s 2025, and AI is better than ever. Let’s use it to our advantage! Here are three prompts you can type to ChatGPT to practice your English:

  1. “Can you correct this paragraph for grammar and clarity?” (Then type a paragraph you’ve written, and ChatGPT will help improve it!)
  1. “Give me five new words to learn today and use them in sentences.” (ChatGPT will provide definitions, examples, and ways to remember them!)
  1. “Ask me a question, and I’ll try to answer in English.” (This helps with forming responses and practicing conversation!)

All in all, be curious and open to learning more. ChatGPT is an incredible tool!

5. Consider Taking an Online Course

Although ChatGPT is great for everyday use, it can become lonely, and you might eventually lose motivation after a while. Thus, the best option we suggest for enhancing your English skills comes in the form of online classes and courses.
