Are TikTok Productivity Hacks Effective for Remote Professionals?

TikTok Productivity Hacks

TikTok has taken the world by storm. As of early 2025, the platform has approximately 1.69 billion monthly active users, and roughly 34 million videos are uploaded each day. You can find anything from videos that will leave you in tears of laughter to educational content that might teach you a thing or two.

With that in mind, we at Job Duck decided to test out some of the most popular productivity hacks shared on TikTok. Are they really as effective as they seem? We asked five team members to try one hack each and incorporate it into their daily work routine for a couple of weeks. Here’s what happened:

Eisenhower Matrix

The Eisenhower Matrix helps you prioritize tasks by sorting them into four categories: urgent and important, important but not urgent, urgent but not important, and neither urgent nor important. Is this the ultimate productivity hack?

Our Creative Team Leader, Andy, decided to test it out himself. Here’s what he had to say:

“For this experiment, I couldn’t use Microsoft To-Do (my go-to productivity tool) because it doesn’t have the option to sort tasks into four groups. That said, I found the Eisenhower Matrix approach a bit more time-consuming, as my to-do list changes throughout the day.

Nevertheless, it’s a great hack to organize your work if you don’t use any other methods. Furthermore, it’s easy to follow and highly customizable. All in all, I might try this hack again in the future, but I wouldn’t rely on it daily. I strongly believe there are better ways to follow a similar approach.”

Andy’s rating: 7/10

“Eat That Frog”

“Eat That Frog” is a simple productivity hack. You start your day by doing the hardest or most important task first. Once that’s done, everything else feels easier, and you feel more productive.

Here is what Fer, our Marketing Specialist, had to say after implementing this strategy in her daily routine:

“My heaviest task is usually reviewing my email inbox during the first hours of the morning. Believe me, it can take a lot of time. However, I often get early-morning requests that I need to handle before anything else.

After trying out this tip, I’d say it worked about 50/50 in terms of efficiency. The hack clashed with my schedule, as I couldn’t always prioritize the hardest task first. I understand the concept, but it might not always work for me.”

Fer’s rating: 6/10

Burkeman’s 3-3-3

The 3-3-3 method helps you focus your day. You choose one big task to finish, three medium tasks to work on, and three small personal things (like resting or doing something fun).

Erick, our Social Media Coordinator, decided to give it a go. Here are his thoughts on the hack:

“I found this tip surprisingly intuitive. It doesn’t require a huge overhaul of your routine, just small tweaks that really add up. I usually start my day with the most important task, but I realized that when it came to the smaller ones, I often tried to do more than I should.

That usually leads to burnout because I’m not the best at pacing myself or taking breaks to recharge. This method is a good reminder to be more mindful of how I spend my energy. It’s also a nice motivator!”

Erick’s rating: 8.5/10 (basic but helpful)

The 5-Second Rule

When you feel the urge to do something, you count down from 5 to 1 and then do it right away. The 5-Second Rule helps you start tasks quickly instead of putting them off.

Morne, our Content Writer, tried this hack, and here’s his feedback:

“I found this approach useful, but I wouldn’t say it changed my life. Is it a bad thing? Not at all! It was helpful because it gave me that extra push when I needed to start working on a task, like researching a blog topic.

However, this hack doesn’t guarantee that you’ll stay motivated throughout the process. Would you really want to count down every time you feel unmotivated? Probably not. Then again, I don’t think it’s meant to be “life-changing,” but more of a quick way to give yourself a head start.

With that said, I think setting clear goals is likely to motivate you more than this hack. Go ahead and give it a try yourself. Any method to help with motivation or to break hesitation is not a bad thing!”

Morne’s rating: 6/10

Time Blocking

Time Blocking is a simple method to organize your day. You divide your day into blocks of time, with each block dedicated to a specific task.

Our Content Creator, Caro, gave this hack a chance. Here’s what she had to say:

“It’s been a game changer for how I manage my day. Instead of feeling overwhelmed by a million things and not knowing where to start, I now have a clear plan. It’s like telling your brain, “Here’s what we’re doing and when.”

No more bouncing between tasks or wasting time deciding what to do next. It helps me stay focused, get stuff done, and still have time to relax without guilt. I highly recommend it if your days feel chaotic or all over the place.”

Caro’s rating: 10/10

The Quack Pack

We thoroughly enjoyed trying out different productivity hacks, so much so that we decided to create our own TikTok video!

“The Quack Pack” involves teamwork. Each morning, you and your team should meet up and mention one important task you need to complete before you clock off.

Throughout the day, the team will hold you accountable and motivate you to cross the finish line. Five minutes before you clock off, meet up again and share your results with the team. Did you manage to complete the task?
