Sharing is caring!

Jobapalooza has concluded, and we are proud of what it brought together. With close to 1,300 total users joining across two days, it became our highest attended virtual job fair to date. That level of interest gave us great insight.
Throughout the sessions, we paid close attention to the questions, comments, and conversations happening in real-time. People were thinking seriously about what they want from their careers and what they are no longer willing to compromise on.
What we heard was consistent and clear. These conversations point to what professionals are actively looking for in their careers right now. Below is what we learned by listening closely during Jobapalooza.
Having Time for Life Outside of Work
As we reviewed the comments during the event, people kept pointing to work-life balance. Those who joined want a career that leaves time for loved ones and personal interests.
Before joining Job Duck, many of us experienced long working hours ourselves. We understand how overwhelming it feels when there is hardly any time left for the people or things you care about.
In one of our Weekly Tea interviews, a Job Duck team member shared this about their current balance:
“Since joining Job Duck, my life has completely changed. I now have time for my family, personal life, and social activities.”- Andrea from Mexico
Feeling Respected at Work
We know that a lack of free time is exhausting, but a difficult work environment can be just as hard to deal with. A toxic workplace came up as one of the main pain points viewers raised. One attendee shared that they “lose motivation when respect is missing.”
Some viewers want security in their roles and expect employers to see them as more than replaceable workers. They expect fair recognition for their work and want to be treated as professionals.
We believe in supporting our team members and treating them with respect. Lizzy from Honduras is part of our team, and this is how she describes her experience working with us:
“It’s a great experience, and everyone in the office has been really nice to me.”
A Competitive Salary
A healthy work environment and work-life balance are important, but they mean little when employees are not paid fairly. This was another point that came up during the conversations. Some viewers felt that a competitive salary is needed in today’s economy.
We all have bills to pay and would like to treat ourselves and our loved ones to something special every now and then. At Job Duck, we offer plenty of benefits, including a competitive salary. Salaries vary by role, but you can explore our latest opportunities by clicking here.
Morne, a team member based in South Africa, shared:
“At Job Duck, I feel that my work is valued and that I am paid fairly for what I do. It feels good to know my effort is recognized.”
Choosing to Work from Home
Some critics have said that remote work will not last. Each year, we continue to see more people apply for our career opportunities. Jobapalooza once again showed how remote work has become in demand.
Some viewers have worked remotely before and would love to continue working that way, while others have only worked in a physical office and would like to give remote work a chance.
Many viewers said their reason is to be closer to their loved ones, while others shared that they prefer working in a peaceful environment. A few attendees also mentioned that they prefer remote work because it allows them to save money by not commuting.
Not too long ago, one of our team members, Dominique from Mexico, shared the following during his Weekly Tea interview:
“Long commutes take away time and energy. Working from home gives me comfort and fewer financial pressures.”
Being Part of an International Team
Finally, we saw a strong interest in being part of an international team. Many viewers shared that global exposure helps them learn new skills and see different ways of working.
They are excited about the possibility of working with people from different cultures without the need to leave their country. One of our team members, Jane from South Africa, once shared the following in a Weekly Tea interview:
“I’m learning a lot about the people, the culture, and the overall environment of the country itself. They learn from me, and I learn from them. It’s a win-win situation, I feel.”
Final Thoughts
What we learned from our two-day job fair is that many people are currently in situations we were once in. They are looking for more free time, a healthy work environment, a competitive salary, the opportunity to work from home, and the chance to be part of an international team.
Is that too much to ask? Some would say yes, but we disagree. For four years in a row, through an anonymous survey, our team has agreed that Job Duck is a Great Place to Work. Here are some of the results:
- 87% say Job Duck is a great place to work, compared to 57% at a typical U.S.-based company
- 95% felt welcome when they joined
- 93% feel comfortable being themselves at work
- 92% say management trusts them to do their jobs without constant oversight
- 91% believe leadership hires people who truly belong here
- 91% say they are encouraged to balance work and personal life
