The Perks of Working with Job Duck

Dear reader,

My name is Valery, you might have seen me in a live session or a video or two on Job Duck’s social media. I am a virtual marketing assistant, and I have worked for Job Duck for a month already. Most of you will think I am still under the influence of the honeymoon phase. However, it does not feel like something temporary. Furthermore, I want to tell you the perks of working with Job Duck that I have encountered so far.

Looking for a career opportunity without experience

I recently graduated, and I was looking for a career opportunity. However, all of the jobs that sounded appealing to me asked for at least one or two years of work experience and were paying (after subtracting the expenses of commuting, office attire, and sometimes meals) a low salary. Moreover, the best-paid jobs were at least a couple of hours away from my house. I researched for a month, presumably, until I found one of Job Duck’s ads. Not only was it remote (perfect for Covid), but it offered the best salary for an inexperienced marketing junior like me.

The application process

There was something very different about Job Duck’s ad that made me want to read every single word of it. The more I read, the more convinced I was that it was the ideal career opportunity for me. Not only for the person I was but for the person I wanted to be. In other words, I thought that applying to this career growth opportunity would not only mean improving my lifestyle but also getting one step closer to being the best version of myself. (Sorry if I am dramatic!). I made up my mind and decided to apply through a job platform called Talentecca.

 I wanted the professional opportunity so badly that I re-read the ad and all the instructions several times to make a plan and submit an unforgettable application. Every step of the way, I felt I was getting closer to my goal. It was not easy, but a voice inside my head kept constantly repeating: Give it your all, or you will regret what could have been. I decided to follow that voice, and suddenly it was time for the interview. 

The interview turned out great. I found myself laughing and looking forward to meeting new people and hopefully making some friends who believe in the same things I do. After the interview, I sent another document. A couple of days later, I signed a contract. Once matched, I had a meeting with the company’s co-founder and my former boss. As I had hoped, they were kind, and they listened to what I knew how to do and wanted to do within the company.

The first day of work

I received a warm welcome and a brief introduction to the company. I believe it is different for everyone as it depends on the company you are matched with. Nevertheless, you are guided and told what your duties are and where to go for help. It has been a little more than a month, and I can tell you that everyone is friendly. Every time I ask for help (no matter whom I ask), I receive all the information that I need with a smile.

Some of the best experiences

During my first week, the lights in my house went out for half of the day. I was worried since one of the requirements to get the job was to have a reliable internet connection. Nonetheless, I failed right from the beginning during my training period. I could feel my bad luck snatching my dream job from my hands. Contrary to what I had expected, my boss was reassuring. She asked me to calm down since it was something out of my control, and she understood the situation. 

Week by week, I started getting along with my co-workers. In the company I work for, we have a daily huddle. During this huddle, I got to greet my teammates and learn what they were going to do that day. We also had activities to get to know each other and contests in which the winners would receive a bonus. It has been an incredible experience! Some of my colleagues are from Colombia or South Africa. However, it feels as though we are very close since we talk every day.

Finally, I enjoy the fact that I have a lot of free time. Once I finish my working schedule, I will have time for my family, hobbies, and studying. Sometimes after a good day at work, I feel on top of the world. I am highly motivated and happy to say that I can sleep more, work from anywhere I want, and have enough time left to learn and do whatever I want!
