Tangible (or hard) skills can be learned in a teaching environment (at school, university, or, most likely, in the workplace). Refers to more technical skills (industry knowledge, technological familiarity, etc.). On the other hand, intangible (or soft) skills are qualities learned over time. Based on experience, fulfillment, and relationships. Some people are born with personalities that include these skills, while others are not.
The main sot skills we all need at work are:
Communication
The ability to communicate efficiently with others is a requirement in any job. If you are not clear and professional with your colleagues, clients, and suppliers, you could affect productivity. Both verbal and non-verbal communication is essential, as grammar and spelling do not go unnoticed when sending emails or messages to others. Effective communication may even require you to be empathetic or understanding during sensitive situations. You should always consider who you are talking to and what the circumstances are before speaking or writing.
Flexibility
Flexibility means you are ready for any sudden change or task that comes your way. Regardless of your job description and expectations, circumstances constantly change from day to day. Those who can easily adapt faster are the ones who excel in the workplace. Flexible employees can take on jobs and tasks that may not be directly associated with their experience, making adjustments to complete as needed. These people also tend to learn from their mistakes rather than dwell on them and move forward with confidence.
Collaboration
When someone is a team player, they demonstrate a positive attitude. They learn from others, listen to various points of view and trust their colleagues. And they work well in a team by capitalizing on their strengths and improving their weaknesses. Teamwork is essential in a professional environment because people must collaborate to achieve the company’s objectives. Rarely an employee in a department takes on a complete project without the help of the rest of the team. Finally, collaboration in the workplace can lead to greater respect and even friendship outside of the workplace. It is a win-win.
Leadership
Employers always look for leadership qualities in their future employees. Leaders are often honest, transparent, and excellent at developing plans and delegating work to achieve objectives and accomplish goals.
Creativity
Proposing different solutions is what distinguishes standard employees from extraordinary employees. Those who can think outside the box are those who have a wide range of ideas and thoughts. Every day, employees face different challenges. With these challenges comes a very different approach and plan, but only after an individual or team has come up with it creatively and thoughtfully. Finally, remember to lean on others to get creative ideas and give credit when and where needed.
