World Art Day, celebrated each year on April 15th, is an international celebration of the fine arts aimed at promoting awareness of creative activity worldwide. And you bet we’re here to celebrate along!
Thinking about art, you can’t deny that it makes you feel something. Art draws us together across distances and differences, ultimately creating a beautiful canvas—a picture of unity and hope.
It is our ‘art’most pleasure to introduce you to five of the most astonishing arts out there – and how to practice them. (P.S. There are plenty more, but if we had to mention them all, this blog would’ve turned into a book!) Sit back, relax, and enjoy this read with us!
Stop-Motion Animation
Stop-motion is an animated filmmaking technique where objects are manipulated in small increments between each photographed frame. This creates the illusion of independent motion or change when the series of frames is played back.
Did you know that the creators of “Shaun The Sheep” and “Chicken Run,” two of the most popular animations out there, used stop-motion animation?
Even though stop-motion might seem a bit intimidating at first, you can have a lot of fun bringing your imagination to life. All you need is a digital camera, clay, editing software, and creativity. Plus, there are tons of tutorials to discover on YouTube!
Pottery
Pottery, dating back to ancient times, has been a part of human history since early civilizations. It is made by shaping naturally occurring raw materials, like clay, into desired forms. After shaping, the clay is fired in a kiln at high temperatures to harden and become heat resistant.
“To practice art, no matter how well or badly, is a way to make your soul grow. So do it.” – Kurt Vonnegut
For beginners starting with the basics, we suggest acquiring clay, a small ceramic kiln, a pottery wheel, and a handful of sculpting tools. Oh, and let your imagination fly. (Please tag us on Instagram after you have uploaded your masterpiece.) We would love to see what you’ve come up with!
Haiku Poetry
Originated during the 17th century in Japan, Haiku is a type of short-form poetry that consists of three lines with a syllable pattern of 5-7-5. Many consider Haiku one of the most popular forms of poetry, as it is less difficult to read and write.
Coolness fills the air
Scarves and sweaters everywhere
Fall weather is here
-Savannah M. Jones
A syllable is a single unit of sound in a word. It usually has a vowel sound and might have some consonant sounds too. If we consider the poem written by Savannah, we can see that she has followed the 5-7-5 rule.
Considering the first paragraph, the word “Cool-ness” could be regarded as two syllables, while the words “fills the air” all contain one syllable. If you seek an effective way to express your emotions, or simply looking to have fun, why not give Haiku a try?
Exquisite Corpse Drawing
What makes life great is creating lasting memories with those you love most. If you’re in for tons of laughter—and possible mind-blowing moments—we’ve got three words for you: Exquisite Corpse Drawing!
It’s an exciting game, a must-try if you’re seeking a great time!
Exquisite Corpse Drawing involves adding elements to a drawing on paper without seeing others’ contributions. Players fold the paper to hide their part and pass it on. Try it out today, but your phone might not stop ringing as those you play with will call you again and again for another round!
Rock Balancing
Let’s rock World Arts Day with rock balancing. This type of art is a meditative and creative activity where individuals carefully arrange rocks in balanced stacks or sculptures. What makes rock balancing great is that practitioners often find relaxation and focus on the process.
“Life is a balance between rest and movement.” – Osho
As straightforward as it seems, rock balancing takes a lot of practice. But you don’t have to be good at it. The point of this art is to have fun. If you want to find a connection with nature and the art of letting go, your answer lies in rock balancing!
Conclusion
As we mentioned at the beginning of this blog, art is a beautiful picture of unity and hope. To all who celebrated this wonderful day, may your artistic side continue to inspire those around you. We hope you thoroughly enjoyed World Art Day!
