Since 1891, Workers’ Day has been celebrated as an international holiday in many countries, originating from the lengthy struggle for workers’ rights and social justice in the late 1800s.
In today’s blog, we want to discuss the struggles that employees had to endure and how Job Duck believes in the movement for workers’ rights, treating all employees with the respect they deserve.
Long Working Hours
Before labor movements, employees around the world often had to work more than 12 hours a day without getting enough breaks. Under these unfortunate circumstances, employees felt extremely fatigued and had little to no time to spend with their families.
Job Duck stands against long working hours!
One of the reasons we happily celebrate International Workers Day is because we confidently promote a healthy work-life balance. Our schedule never exceeds 40 hours per week, and all our employees can enjoy two 15-minute breaks and an hour for lunch every day.
Low Wages
As mentioned above, many employees worked more than 12-hour shifts per day. What makes it even more devastating is that they were not ‘rewarded’ for their hard work and efforts. They received just enough to cover their basic needs, with little left for savings or discretionary spending.
Reflecting on the idea that many workers suffered during those times truly brings to light how important positive change is.
At Job Duck, we offer competitive salaries and many benefits. Not only do we want our employees to live a financially stable life, but the salaries and benefits we offer are also a sign of appreciation for their hard work. Our team stands together as one, and we couldn’t be prouder of everyone’s contributions.
Unsafe Working Conditions
There were few, if any, regulations governing workplace safety. This left workers vulnerable to hazardous conditions without proper protection or oversight. For example, early industrial factories and mines created numerous health risks, yet there was no system in place to compensate them for injuries suffered on the job.
Your health should come first!
Many people worked under unsafe conditions. However, with Job Duck, we are grateful to work from the comfort of our homes. In addition to a one-hour lunch break and two 15-minute breaks, we highly encourage our employees to make the most of their breaks by stretching, taking a walk, or simply relaxing away from the computer.
Discrimination
Discrimination remains one of the most challenging battles workers have fought, and many continue to fight it today. Workers have endured unequal opportunities, low wages, and limited benefits, among other issues, due to factors such as race, gender, age, or ethnicity.
Diversity strengthens our team and adds extra value to our positive workplace culture.
Job Duck is proud to have a diverse team representing people from all walks of life. Every member of our team is valued and treated fairly, regardless of their background. We will continue to support incredible individuals in building amazing careers based on their talents and ambition for success. Ultimately, we are all humans and deserve equal opportunities!
Conclusion
The fight for fairness and employee appreciation will live on. Millions have done the work before us, but we want to continue the legacy of treating our team with the utmost respect — creating a healthy work environment is Job Duck’s priority.
