As humans, we enjoy being in control of our everyday life. We want to work towards a bright future, and we tend to plan it out to the last letter. One thing we can’t control is the weather; hot, cold, destructive storms, and heavy rainy days.
Working as a virtual assistant keeps you safe in the comfort of your home. You don’t have to face storms or heavy rain falling outside. But it could affect your productivity.
We gained lots of experience throughout the years, and therefore we decided to share How Weather Affects Productivity and how you could “be the storm” as a virtual assistant:
Smile, Sunshine!
According to a survey by Study Finds, 65 percent of 2,000 working adults claim they prefer working at cool temperatures and a clear blue sky. Employees work more efficiently with bright light from the sun as it helps keep the brain awake and attentive.
There’s nothing quite as satisfying as seeing the beautiful open sky through your window while working on your daily tasks. But there’s always a chance for high temperatures depending on where you stay. Our body temperature is between 36°C and 38°C. If it rises above, it could lead to heat stress.
Heat stress can cause unclear thinking due to excessive sweating, which leads to the body losing fluid and causing headaches, vomiting, and dizziness. Therefore, to reduce heat stress and stay productive, it’s best to:
- take frequent breaks,
- drink water regularly,
- wear light and loose-fitting clothing,
- cool your face with cold water,
- paint your office walls white,
- grow plants in your office,
- have good ventilation.
“Bed Weather”
Some virtual assistants enjoy working in rainy weather, while others struggle to find motivation. For some, hearing the sound of raindrops motivates them to complete their tasks faster as they find peace and have no urge to do something outside after their working hours.
While for others, the lack of sunshine and darker surroundings could signal the brain to relax, causing unproductiveness. For some, rainy weather is seen as “bed weather.” Instead of focusing on their tasks, they can’t help but think of which movies to watch after work.
If you find extra motivation on rainy days, that’s excellent! Keep that motivation there. But for those struggling to stay productive, there are ways to fix it! We recommend doing the following:
- enjoy a warm coffee,
- take vitamin D tablets,
- work on the tasks that need your full attention (to keep focused)
- brainstorm ideas to help move the company forward,
- don’t wait on sunny days to feel inspired,
- listen to upbeat motivational music.
Be The Storm
During storms, power can be very unreliable and, therefore, waste valuable time due to power outages. As a virtual assistant, it could leave you nervous and frustrated as you may have tasks that have a deadline, but the weather decided, not today.
Here at Job Duck, we understand that storms and other disasters are out of our virtual assistants’ control, but we believe we should “be the storm.” We take deep breaths and try our best to stay as focused as possible.
Therefore, wherever you work around the world, please be safe, and as a guideline, here are some things you could do to always be online during your working hours:
- You could buy a portable off-grid power system to keep your desktop/ laptop running.
- Buy an LED light to have some lighting in your office.
- Be sure to have a backup internet connection and a power bank to charge your modem.
- Work in a coffee shop with power and an internet connection. (If the weather is extreme, please stay safe at home, and keep your supervisor informed of the storm and the power outage.)
While some virtual assistants are more productive during sunny days, others thrive on rainy days. Whenever you experience a storm, fight through it with your handy gadgets, and please remain safe. We hope these tips will help you with your productivity! Click HERE if you’re interested in building an amazing career with Job Duck.
