The History of Pride Month
In the early morning hours of June 28, 1969, in New York City, a police raid took place at the Stonewall Inn, one of the “safe spots” where LGBTQ+ individuals could gather. During those days, members of the LGBTQ+ community suffered taboos and violence as they could not express their true selves.
It was during this period that the community resisted because constant mistreatment left them frustrated. This led to several days of protest which was the turning point in the history of the LGBTQ+ community’s rights.
Now, Pride Month occurs every June to honor the Stonewall uprising to continue the battle for equality and inclusion, and advocate for the embrace of love for all individuals as they are, or for who they choose to love.

Its a very special day for me too as I remember my wedding day 48yrs ago on the same date.
