A lot of people say there’s nothing like the father instinct, there’s just so much about the protective instinct of a man. And I’m just starting to know about it. Hi, my name is Yoltic, and this is my first father’s day. My first child is a beautiful girl named Vanya who was just born in January. If anyone over here is a father, you already know what lessons I’m starting to learn. Continue reading my journey being a work-from-home dad.
I remember I received a lot of advice from other people who have had experience in parenting for quite some years. I also remember there were quite some of those tips that didn’t actually work. So today, I would like to share with you what I have learned so far, and how working from home has helped me make it way more practical.
Sleep As Much As You Can
I’m not sure if you were told this too, but, when my wife and I were expecting, a lot of people used to tell us, “sleep as much as you can, guys, because once the baby arrives, you will be missing it.” It is true that a firstborn does not have an official schedule of when to sleep. So the adaptation process takes some time. Nevertheless, working from home has helped me adapt to the new sleeping schedule excellently.
Since my office is just 10 steps away from my room, it made it easier to worry less when I was waking up very often at night.
Of course, it took time for us to get used to the non-routine routine. Also, during that time I was very sleepy, but it helped me out a lot. In the end, it made me aware of my wife and her needs, created a new habit to be more protective, and I have been able to see and help my daughter create healthy sleeping habits. Which feels very accomplishing.
I Remember How Much I Suffered From My Children
Okay, being completely honest, people don’t textually tell you they have suffered from their children. They tend to say it, well… In a different way. Certainly, having children comes out with results that you 100% might not expect. And I believe that is because there’s an actual life who thinks completely differently than you.
Still, I have learned that, as parents, besides the responsibility of taking care of them and teaching them the best you can, you can either enjoy them or suffer from them.
It was because my wife was expecting, that I started to look for a job 100% home-based, so I could have the chance of being available for my family. And I gained an excellent position at the Job Duck. Where I can fully be both, a good employee and a great dad. So, instead of focusing on the things I “lost,” I rather focus on the things I have earned, learned, and all I have won thanks to my baby.
Make Sure You Supply for Your Family
This is the huge stress everyone puts over a father: money has to keep flowing into the house to give a quality life for your family. Especially now that you have a baby. I have to admit that, as a father, you do have to keep an income. We live in a world where most things are acquired by money. So, yes, of course, you have a responsibility to get that money for them.
Nevertheless, when a lot of people pressure you into money, money becomes your number one priority. And I hadn’t noticed it until I had that pressure myself. A lot of dads just focus on getting money into the house, and they forget everything else.
Being a father is more than just supplying for your family. Your family needs your time, your effort, your jokes to make them laugh, your teachings for them to learn, your hugs to feel protected, and your heart to feel you near them. Being a work-from-home dad, I have had the time to be there for my baby, see her growing, be a part of her new lessons, and make her laugh. Working from home has let me not only be the “provider of the house,” but also be an actual father.
In short: Yes, being a father is not easy at all. There are a lot of things we do have to notice and be aware of. However, I encourage you to enjoy the little things. Focus on the people you care about rather than on the things that are needed. Finally, I definitely encourage you to look for a home-based job; because it will make your life way more practical.
