I took my lunch break earlier and sat outside in the garden listening to the peaceful sounds of birds chirping while thinking there’s no place like home. As I took a sip from the coffee I made, my thoughts suddenly traveled back to the days when I worked in an office. I remember the traffic on my way to work and how stressful it was, the expensive work clothes I had to buy, and the much needed but so little time I had to spend with my family.
It truly struck me how blessed I am to work from home- my own space where I can revamp whenever I please. So much so, that it motivated me to write this blog: the reasons why I believe ‘There’s No Place Like Home’:
Expenses of Working From Home vs. An Office
(The following expenses vary from country to country, so I can’t give you the exact cost of everything.)
Expenses From Home
- Internet costs
- Office equipment
- Personal desktop or laptop
- Insurance (It’s up to you)
- More groceries
Expenses From Office
- Public transportation (bus or train tickets)
- Gas expenses (traveling by own vehicle)
- Maintaining vehicle
- Parking tickets
- Daycare for children
- Pet care
- Entertainment costs (colleagues birthdays, social events, etc.
Working from home means that your actual monthly expenses will include internet costs, electricity, groceries, and insurance on your office equipment. If you work in an office, your expenses will include daily transportation, lunch, formal work clothes, social events, etc.
I never really thought about these expenses because they were part of my everyday life. Back in the day, I calculated fees outside of my work environment. Since I’ve started doing the maths, and I truly believe everybody should- I realized that I’m saving a lot of money working from home.
Benefits of Working From Home
Saving more money while working from home is probably one of the greatest benefits, but that’s not all! According to a survey by ConnectSolutions, working from home could increase productivity by 77%. That’s a remarkable number if we think about it.
What’s more, you can enjoy lunch in the comfort of your home without the need to rush back to the office. You can spend more time with your family, be safe in your home office, and dress casually. There are no office distractions, and you can customize your environment as you please!
